Update — October 28, 2026 10:11 AM CST: The UK Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office updated its Egypt travel advice on 27 October 2026, highlighting unpredictable regional tensions and border risks. The advisory warns against all travel to North Sinai and near the Libyan border, noting that the Rafah border crossing remains closed.
The UK Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO) issued an updated travel advisory for Egypt on 27 October 2026, citing heightened regional tensions across the Middle East. The department noted that the regional security context remains deeply unpredictable, presenting risks of sudden escalation alongside potential strikes on infrastructure.
Under the advisory, the FCDO advises against all travel to the North Sinai Governorate and within 20 kilometres of the Egypt-Libya border, with the exception of the town of El Salloum, where it advises against all but essential travel. It also advises against all but essential travel to the northern section of South Sinai beyond the St Catherine-Nuweibaa road, eastern Ismailiyah Governorate east of the Suez Canal, and specific sections of the Western Desert, the Hala’ib Triangle, and the Bir Tawil Trapezoid.
The guidance also highlights risks at international land crossings. The Rafah border crossing into Gaza remains closed. Additionally, the FCDO warned that border crossings between Egypt and Israel, such as the Taba crossing, could close at short notice due to broader regional conflict.
