Hong Kong Expands Offshore Yuan Financing and GCC Outreach for Belt and Road

Invest Hong Kong announced efforts to expand offshore yuan financing across Belt and Road markets during the Annual Conference of Financial Street Forum 2026 in Beijing. Hong Kong delegations have conducted roadshows in Gulf Cooperation Council countries to foster capital market ties and lower funding costs for infrastructure. At the Annual Conference of Financial Street Forum 2026 in Beijing, Invest Hong Kong official King Leung outlined initiatives to broaden offshore yuan financing across Belt and Road economies, according to the Global Times.

To strengthen capital market links, Hong Kong delegations recently carried out commercial roadshows across Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) member states. The outreach aims to encourage the issuance of offshore yuan bonds and credit facilities to help partner countries reduce infrastructure financing costs.

Key focus areas for the financing initiatives include clean energy installations, off-grid power grids, and energy storage developments.

Additionally, mainland Chinese technology and infrastructure companies are being encouraged to leverage Hong Kong as a commercial hub to support their business expansion across the Gulf region.
