The car rental sector in the United Arab Emirates is transitioning away from physical counter lines and paper receipts toward mobile-based platforms, according to a report by TechPluto. The shift enables residents and international business travellers to browse vehicle models, complete digital payments, and receive instant booking confirmations remotely without visiting a rental office.
Digital onboarding is increasingly supported by contactless verification systems, allowing customers to upload passports, visit visas, or Emirates IDs directly through mobile applications. TechPluto noted that this adoption aligns with the UAE's broader digital identity infrastructure, designed to streamline identity checks and facilitate keyless vehicle access.
On the operational side, rental companies are adopting connected fleet technologies, such as automated maintenance monitoring and live GPS tracking. In deploying location tracking and operational systems, vehicle rental operators are required to adhere to transport regulations and compliance guidelines established by regulatory bodies, including the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA).
The report also identified telematics as an expanding operational tool to record acceleration, speed, and braking patterns, helping operators track driving safety. TechPluto added that the future trajectory of UAE car rentals encompasses AI-powered pricing, flexible rental subscriptions, multimodal connectivity, and the integration of electric vehicles with regional charging infrastructure.
