DIFC Courts Deploys Avalanche Blockchain to Enable Instant Cross-Border Document Verification

The Dubai International Financial Centre (DIFC) Courts has started issuing court documents linked to NFT-based credentials on the Avalanche C-Chain. The system enables banks, authorities, and counterparties worldwide to verify court orders and hearing records within seconds without storing confidential case data on-chain. The technical solution was developed by Deca4 Advisory and builds on the court's existing distributed ledger initiatives.

The Dubai International Financial Centre (DIFC) Courts announced that it has begun issuing court orders and hearing records with blockchain-verifiable digital authenticity credentials on Avalanche, according to a report published by Avalanche. The system allows banks, government authorities, overseas courts, and commercial counterparties to verify the authenticity and origin of DIFC Courts documents within seconds.

Under the new mechanism, when a court order or hearing record is issued, a cryptographic fingerprint of the digital file is tied to a unique, non-transferable NFT-based credential recorded on the Avalanche C-Chain. Recipient institutions can check the document against this credential to confirm it was issued by DIFC Courts, with any alteration to the underlying file causing the verification check to fail. No document content or confidential case information is stored on the public blockchain.

The initiative is designed to reduce cross-border authentication delays, particularly for international parties with no physical connection to the UAE who use the DIFC Courts through its opt-in jurisdiction. According to Ava Labs Chief Business Officer John Nahas, the system makes critical documents verifiable across borders while keeping sensitive data off-chain.

The deployment was designed and integrated with existing court systems by DIFC Courts' technology partner, Deca4 Advisory. The rollout expands DIFC Courts' use of distributed ledger technology, complementing its existing notarisation services recorded on Hedera.
