UAE Waives Patent Registration Fees for Students and People of Determination

The UAE Ministry of Economy and Tourism announced fee exemptions across 29 industrial property services under Cabinet Resolution No. 136 of 2026. The measure covers patent applications, industrial designs, utility certificates, and substantive examinations for student inventors and People of Determination. The ministry reported that utility certificate filings increased by 21.43 percent during the first half of 2026.

The UAE Ministry of Economy and Tourism announced that Cabinet Resolution No. 136 of 2026 provides full fee exemptions across 29 industrial property services for student inventors and People of Determination.

The measure waives fees for 11 core services previously costing between Dh100 and Dh1,000, including applications for patent and industrial design registrations, utility certificates, and substantive examinations.

People of Determination qualify for waivers on nine additional services with standard fees ranging from Dh1,000 to Dh9,000, while student inventors receive exemptions on another nine services costing up to Dh4,500.

The ministry stated that applications for utility certificates rose by 21.43 percent during the first six months of 2026 compared to the same period in 2025. Cumulative registered applications for patents, utility certificates, and industrial designs across the UAE have reached 22,184.
