UAE-Switzerland Trade Route Expands 175% in First Five Months of 2026

The value of goods exported from the UAE to Switzerland surged by 175% between January and May 2026, ranking it among the fastest-growing trade corridors globally, according to DHL's October Globalization Tracker. The surge occurred alongside significant movements in international gold trade and trade policy shifts. However, the UAE's total merchandise trade value contracted by 7% year-on-year over the same five-month period.

The value of goods exported from the United Arab Emirates to Switzerland increased by 175% in the first five months of 2026, according to DHL's October Globalization Tracker. The surge placed the UAE-Switzerland corridor as the third-fastest-growing route among the world's 100 largest trade lanes between January and May 2026.

According to DHL, the two routes recording higher growth rates during the period were exports from Switzerland to the United Kingdom, which rose by 292%, and exports from Switzerland to China, which increased by 212%. DHL reported that the three fastest-growing corridors were influenced by United States tariffs and policy uncertainties, with cross-border gold movements playing a major role in Switzerland's trade data.

DHL noted that the Tracker does not specify which commodities drove the 175% rise in UAE exports to Switzerland, though the increase aligned with substantial shifts in international gold trading. The figures measure trade value in current US dollars rather than cargo weight or physical freight volume.

The bilateral expansion occurred despite a downturn in the UAE's aggregate trade performance. The report showed that the UAE's total goods trade value fell by 7% year-on-year between January and May 2026, making it one of only three countries—alongside Saudi Arabia and Ireland—among the world's 50 largest trading nations to register an overall decline.
