Update — September 28, 2026 5:09 AM CST: The UAE has eased entry measures and removed heightened travel screenings for Ugandan citizens following the end of Uganda's Ebola outbreak. Heightened entry precautions remain active for arrivals originating from the Democratic Republic of the Congo and South Sudan.
The United Arab Emirates has officially eased entry and visa restrictions previously imposed on travellers from Uganda, according to a joint announcement by the National Emergency Crisis and Disaster Management Authority (NCEMA), the Ministry of Health and Prevention (MoHAP), and the Federal Authority for Identity, Citizenship, Customs and Port Security (ICP). Precautionary restrictions were initially introduced in June 2026 following regional health outbreaks, which had suspended visa issuances.
Authorities confirmed that Uganda satisfied public health requirements after completing a 42-day international monitoring period without recording any new Ebola cases. Despite the reopening for Ugandan travellers, officials stated that precautionary entry curbs remain active for travellers originating from the Democratic Republic of the Congo and South Sudan. NCEMA noted that measures will continue to be reviewed against evolving public health assessments.
In parallel with the border update, the UAE committed $10 million through the UAE Aid Agency to support the broader international campaign against Ebola in Africa. The pledge was presented during an international meeting convened by the United States on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly in New York.
Dr Tareq Al Ameri, chairman of the UAE Aid Agency, noted that the country has already dispatched more than 150 tonnes of medical and food supplies to affected areas, including over 72 tonnes sent from Dubai to Uganda, providing supplies to approximately 280 health centres.
