UAE Enforces Salt, Sugar, and Fat Caps with Dh500,000 Penalties

The UAE Ministry of Health and Prevention has introduced mandatory limits on sodium, sugar, and saturated fats in selected packaged food items. The phased requirements apply to domestic and imported goods, with full compliance required by December 31, 2030. Non-compliant businesses face fines reaching up to Dh500,000.

The UAE Ministry of Health and Prevention has begun implementing a ministerial resolution that imposes mandatory caps on sodium, sugar, and saturated fats across selected food categories.

According to The National, the regulatory measures apply to packaged food products sold across commercial establishments nationwide, encompassing both locally manufactured goods and imported items.

The regulatory standards will be implemented in phases. Authorities have set December 31, 2030, as the date by which the final formulation limits become legally binding.

Businesses and food handlers that fail to adhere to the mandated standards face fines of up to Dh500,000.
