Saudi Power Procurement Company has awarded China's Gotion High-Tech 6 GWh of battery storage capacity, representing approximately 75% of the kingdom's 2 GW/8 GWh G1 tender valued at roughly $1.16 billion. Gotion secured three sites—Al Muwayah, Haden, and Al Kahafa—each delivering 500 MW/2 GWh. The project marks the first international utility-scale deployment of the Gotion Grid storage system.
Chinese battery manufacturer Gotion High-Tech has secured contracts to supply 6 gigawatt-hours of utility-scale battery energy storage systems in Saudi Arabia. The award covers three projects under the Saudi Power Procurement Company's first procurement group, valued at approximately $1.16 billion. The systems will connect directly to the kingdom's 380-kilovolt transmission network.
Saudi Power Procurement Company (SPPC) has qualified 13 companies to bid for the third round of the kingdom's combined-cycle gas turbine independent power producer programme. The qualified pool features regional and international developers, including UAE-based Taqa and Etihad Development Company alongside China's PowerChina. The projects will be executed under a build-own-operate model with provision for future carbon capture readiness.
