Oman Exports 4,500 Tonnes of Squid in 2025 With China Among Key Partners

In 2025, Oman exported 4,500 tonnes of squid worth US$11.6 million across 19 countries, with China ranking among the top buyers alongside Vietnam and Malaysia. Total domestic squid landings reached approximately 14,000 tonnes, dominated by traditional artisanal fishing. Oman also imported about 485 tonnes of squid during the year, with Yemen, China, and the UAE serving as the leading suppliers.

In 2025, Oman exported 4,500 tonnes of squid valued at US$11.6 million to 19 countries, according to a report by TV BRICS citing its media partner Al Shabiba. Vietnam was the largest buyer of Omani squid, followed by China and Malaysia.

Data from Oman's National Centre for Statistics and Information showed that around 14,000 tonnes of squid were caught domestically over the course of the year. Traditional fishing accounted for the vast majority of the volume at 12,700 tonnes, while coastal fishing contributed 767 tonnes and commercial fishing supplied 504 tonnes.

By geographic distribution within Oman, the province of Al Wusta recorded the highest catch volume with 4,460 tonnes. Dhofar followed with 4,260 tonnes, and South Al Sharqiyah registered 2,340 tonnes.

In addition to its outbound trade, Oman imported approximately 485 tonnes of squid during 2025. The primary sources of these imports were Yemen, China, and the United Arab Emirates.
