NMDC Group Inaugurates AED 618 Million Dredger Built in Nantong, China

UAE-based NMDC Group has inaugurated its new heavy-duty cutter suction dredger, the Abu Al Bakhoush, in Nantong, China. Constructed by Jiangsu Haixin Shipping Heavy Industry under an AED 618 million ($168.3 million) contract, the 148-metre vessel expands NMDC Group's fleet to more than 170 marine assets.

UAE-based NMDC Group inaugurated its new self-propelled heavy-duty cutter suction dredger, named the Abu Al Bakhoush, at a ceremony in Nantong, China, on October 9, 2026. The ceremony was attended by UAE Minister of State for Foreign Trade Dr. Thani bin Ahmed Al Zeyoudi, NMDC Group CEO Dr. Yasser Zaghloul, and officials from the UAE Embassy in China.

The vessel was constructed by Jiangsu Haixin Shipping Heavy Industry Co. Ltd. pursuant to a contract valued at AED 618 million ($168.3 million). The dredger measures 148 metres in length and can reach a maximum dredging depth of 38 metres.

According to the report, the Green Passport-certified vessel is equipped with a 7.8-megawatt cutter and has a total installed power of 30,040 kilowatts. Its delivery expands NMDC Group's global fleet to more than 170 marine assets, aimed at serving international port and infrastructure development projects.
