Abu Dhabi sovereign wealth fund Mubadala Investment Company plans to maintain an annual investment pace of approximately $39 billion while focusing on opportunities in Asia, according to comments made by its Chief Financial Officer Carlos Obeid at the Milken Institute Asia Summit in Singapore.
Obeid stated that Mubadala deployed around $39 billion last year, representing roughly 10 per cent of its portfolio, and intends to maintain that rate of capital deployment across economic cycles. He described Asia as an important region for the fund's international portfolio expansion, highlighting China, South Korea, India, and Japan as the primary countries where Mubadala plans to increase investment.
According to Obeid, Mubadala has worked to raise its exposure to Asia in recent years, lifting the region's share of its total portfolio from approximately 10 per cent three years ago to around 13 per cent today. He noted that the fund aims to expand those exposures further across multiple investment strategies and themes.
Obeid highlighted four key thematic focus areas for the fund: the energy transition, pervasive technology, the reconfiguration of global supply chains, and evolving consumer trends. He stated that Mubadala's investment approach aligns with Abu Dhabi government objectives to generate financial returns while integrating the local economy into global markets, primarily through private equity partnerships.
