Abu Dhabi-based sovereign investor Mubadala Investment Company has invested $1 billion in Chinese coffee giant Luckin Coffee, QSR Media Asia reported. Mubadala is an investment entity owned by the government of Abu Dhabi.
Following the investment, Luckin Coffee announced the appointment of Philip Yifei Bao to its board of directors, effective September 29, 2026. Bao currently serves as Director of Private Equity China within Mubadala's Private Equity platform.
According to the report, Bao worked in private equity and investment banking in London from 2011 to 2017, and holds Bachelor of Arts and Master of Engineering degrees in Electrical and Electronic Engineering from Gonville and Caius College, University of Cambridge.
The investment takes place as Luckin Coffee evaluates expansion into Middle East markets, according to reporting cited from CNBC.
