Flydubai has issued a statement confirming the temporary suspension of all flights to and from Israel while an official investigation continues into a violent incident aboard flight FZ1073 from Dubai to Tel Aviv, China Daily reported. According to Israeli officials, a co-pilot stabbed the captain in an apparent attempt to crash the aircraft, which was carrying more than 170 people.
Disaster was averted after the injured captain managed to unlock the cockpit door, enabling passengers to intervene and incapacitate the assailant. A reserve crew that was traveling on board the flight subsequently took control of the aircraft and safely landed it at Tabuk airport in Saudi Arabia.
The United Arab Emirates has ordered the formation of an investigation team to examine the circumstances of the incident, according to the UAE's Emirates News Agency (WAM). UAE Attorney-General Hamad Saif Al Shamsi stressed that inquiries are active and ongoing, urging the public to refrain from speculation and avoid circulating unverified reports before authorities finalize their findings.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu stated in an interview with Fox News that the attacker was under investigation in Saudi Arabia and was anticipated to be transferred to the UAE, noting that Israel intends to follow and potentially participate in the probe. Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz described the co-pilot as a terrorist attempting to crash the plane, and Netanyahu alleged the suspect had undergone Islamist radicalization.
Following discussions with Netanyahu, US President Donald Trump stated publicly that the co-pilot appeared to be a terrorist or mentally disturbed. The incident has intensified aviation security concerns across the region.
