China Harbour Engineering Company has completed the main concrete structure of the underground service pipe gallery for Road 3 and Road 16 under the Jeddah Central Comprehensive Development Infrastructure Project, according to reportage from Seetao citing the Chinese Embassy in Saudi Arabia.
The project is situated in the city center of Jeddah along the Red Sea coast and forms part of the infrastructure initiatives advancing the Saudi Vision 2030 framework. The broader development covers municipal roads, comprehensive utility corridors, service buildings, landscape architecture, and smart city systems intended to support tourism, culture, sports, and entertainment facilities.
The finished underground gallery measures approximately 1,507 meters in length and utilized approximately 40,000 cubic meters of cast-in-place concrete alongside 5,600 tons of steel reinforcement. The gallery incorporates standard, connecting, and transition sections, adopting single-layer or double-layer configurations depending on area specifications.
The report stated that the construction team faced technical constraints including coastal groundwater management, permeable soil, high ambient temperatures, and sudden winds. The contractors utilized Building Information Modeling (BIM) technology to coordinate structural models with adjacent underground utilities, conduct groundwater pumping tests, and execute slope stability assessments prior to completing the structure.
With structural completion achieved across the service pipe gallery, the project advances to subsequent construction phases, including mechanical and electrical installations, pipeline laying, and surface road construction.
