Chinese automaker BYD introduced its widest electric commercial vehicle portfolio to date at the IAA Transportation 2026 exhibition in Hannover, held on 14 September 2026, according to Tires & Parts News. The zero-emission commercial range spans from 3.5-tonne delivery vehicles to 44-tonne heavy trucks, designed to cover applications ranging from municipal and last-mile logistics to long-haul freight.
The centerpiece of the showcase is the ETT 44, an electric-first heavy-duty tractor designed specifically for long-distance transport. According to BYD, the vehicle delivers approximately 1,000 hp (750 kW), utilizes a proprietary 651 kWh Blade Battery, and offers a rated range of up to 600 kilometers. The truck supports ultra-fast charging at up to 1.5 megawatts, which the company states can add roughly 400 kilometers of range in 20 minutes, alongside carrying a five-star Euro NCAP safety rating.
In addition to the flagship tractor, BYD exhibited the T020 and T028 rigid trucks designed for regional distribution, specialized vehicles for waste collection and municipal services, and battery-electric yard tractors aimed at short, repetitive distribution cycles.
BYD Executive Vice President Stella Li stated that the company's flash-charging technology is transitioning from passenger vehicles to commercial trucks, enabling charge times from 20% to 80% in approximately 20 minutes. She positioned the offering as part of a single energy ecosystem encompassing solar, storage, charging infrastructure, and vehicle financing under a Total Cost of Mobility framework.
Tires & Parts News noted that while the launch is targeted at European logistics, the technology holds direct relevance for the UAE. With BYD steadily expanding its passenger vehicle network across the UAE and wider Gulf, regional logistics and municipal fleet operators may look to commercial electric alternatives as local charging infrastructure and operating-cost assessments evolve.
