Posta Kenya and China’s Vnlin Partner on Cross-Border Logistics and Freight Links

The Postal Corporation of Kenya has partnered with China-based Vnlin Logistics Technology to establish a regional cross-border e-commerce logistics hub in Nairobi. The collaboration includes plans for automated sorting facilities, digital customs clearance, and exploring three weekly 100-tonne freighter flights connecting Nairobi with commercial centres in China, Hong Kong, and Dubai.

The Postal Corporation of Kenya (PCK) has signed a partnership agreement with China-based Vnlin Logistics Technology to position Kenya as a regional logistics hub and agent for East and Central Africa. The deal, signed at Posta House in Nairobi, was led by PCK Postmaster General and Chief Executive John Tonui and witnessed by Kenya National Chamber of Commerce and Industry President Erick Rutto, according to The Star.

Under the partnership, PCK will upgrade its logistics infrastructure using Vnlin's technology to streamline trade between Kenya and major commercial centres across Asia and the Middle East. A core component of the project is the development of a digital customs clearance and inspection hub designed to process cargo manifests, declarations, and risk profiling in real time.

The initiative also includes a smart parcel sorting centre featuring automated lines with a capacity of up to 1,800 shipments per hour, or more than 20,000 orders daily. Additionally, the two firms are exploring dedicated air-freight capacity, comprising three weekly 100-tonne freighter services linking Nairobi with China, Hong Kong, and Dubai.

Vnlin cited figures during the signing estimating Kenya's e-commerce transaction volume at approximately $2.6 billion, compared to $7.9 billion in South Africa and $6.1 billion in Nigeria. PCK's expansion into digital fulfilment comes as Communications Authority of Kenya data showed domestic parcels handled by the postal operator reached 667,978 during the April–June 2026 quarter.
