An Iranian authority overseeing the Strait of Hormuz stated on Thursday that three oil tankers recently struck in the waterway were owned or chartered by the United Arab Emirates, according to Iran International.
The authority identified the vessels as Al Ruwais, Sinbad, and Mersin Prosperity. Shipping intelligence service Marisks previously reported that the three Liberian-flagged tankers had been struck while transiting the strait on Tuesday.
Iranian authorities said the vessels had crossed the Strait of Hormuz several times over the prior two months, accusing them of failing to comply with rules governing passage through the waterway.
Al Ruwais and Mersin Prosperity are managed by UAE-based ADNOC Logistics & Services, while Sinbad is managed by Anglo-Eastern Tanker Management. Reuters reported that the tankers were sailing with their Automatic Identification System (AIS) transponders turned off when they were struck.
