Dubai and Abu Dhabi Rank Among Leading Global Cities in BCG Study

Abu Dhabi and Dubai placed among the world's leading cities for economic opportunity and quality of life in Boston Consulting Group's Cities of Choice 4.0 report. Dubai ranked fifth globally for economic opportunities—the only Middle Eastern city in the top five—and twelfth in social capital while leading globally in social connections. The 80-city study found both UAE hubs consistently outperforming global averages across resident experience indicators.

Abu Dhabi and Dubai have ranked among the world's top-performing cities for economic opportunity, quality of life, and urban competitiveness in the latest Cities of Choice 4.0 report published by Boston Consulting Group (BCG) and the BCG Institute, Gulf News reported.

The report evaluated 80 cities worldwide across five core dimensions: economic opportunities, livability, social capital, government interaction, and speed of change, using a blend of objective data and resident sentiment surveys. According to the study, the two UAE cities consistently exceeded global averages across nearly every resident experience metric.

Dubai placed fifth globally in economic opportunities, making it the sole Middle Eastern city to rank in the global top five for that dimension. BCG linked this result to factors such as growing household incomes, positive sentiment regarding the commercial environment, strong presence of international firms, and above-average confidence in career growth and financial access.

In social capital, Dubai ranked 12th globally, the highest among all Middle Eastern cities assessed. Dubai also ranked first globally in the sub-dimension of social connections, reflecting high rates of community engagement, social interaction, and neighborly generosity. Abu Dhabi also recorded strong performance in social connectedness metrics.

The report attributed the UAE cities' strong standing to long-term government investments in public infrastructure, digital public administration, and economic diversification designed to attract international businesses, capital, and skilled talent.
