Ajman Municipality Launches Pilot to Regulate Bachelor and Shared Housing

The Ajman Department of Municipality and Planning has begun implementing a new initiative to classify buildings and regulate residential occupancy, introducing an official framework for bachelor accommodation and shared housing across the emirate, Gulf News reported. The municipal program aims to regulate occupancy patterns, optimise building use, and enhance safety and urban living standards in residential zones.

According to the department, the regulatory system has entered an initial pilot phase covering five priority areas: Al Nuaimiya, Al Rashidiya, Al Nakheel, Liwara, and Al Rumaila. Authorities stated that the pilot will be monitored, evaluated, and developed further based on initial implementation outcomes before expanding into subsequent phases.

The initiative was introduced during an official workshop organised by the department for property management and real estate companies operating in Ajman. Department representatives detailed the policy framework, enforcement mechanisms, and mandatory standards governing shared and bachelor housing, while explaining registration procedures and access channels for property operators.

Mohammed Abdulwahab Mustafa, Director of the Municipal Control and Inspection Department, said the initiative is designed to resolve operational and planning challenges linked to shared accommodation while balancing community requirements with municipal planning rules. He added that the policy establishes clear conditions under which bachelor accommodation is permitted in buildings and defines formal operational mechanisms for shared residences.
