The governments of the United Arab Emirates and China have signed a memorandum of understanding to promote bilateral investment flows. The signing was witnessed by Sheikh Khaled bin Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi, and Li Qiang, Premier of the State Council of the People's Republic of China, according to a statement released by the UAE Ministry of Investment.
The agreement was formally signed by Mohamed Hassan Alsuwaidi, UAE Minister of Investment, and Liu Sushe, Vice-Chairman of China's National Development and Reform Commission. Under the pact, the two jurisdictions plan to explore setting up joint investment platforms, funds, and vehicles to facilitate investments, including projects in third markets. The framework also supports the creation of a China-focused investment platform by relevant UAE investment entities, subject to necessary approvals and market conditions.
UAE Minister of Investment Mohamed Hassan Alsuwaidi stated that China serves as the UAE's principal trading partner and its fourth-largest source of foreign direct investment, accounting for 6.3 percent of the UAE's total inward FDI stock as of 2024. He added that more than 16,000 Chinese companies currently operate across the UAE.
