The third batch of date palm seedlings donated by the United Arab Emirates to China has arrived in succession at a date palm quarantine nursery in Wenchang, south China's Hainan Province, according to Xinhua News Agency.

The facility and date palm base are operated by the Coconut Research Institute of the Chinese Academy of Tropical Agricultural Sciences (CATAS).

The shipment was airlifted directly from the UAE to China and consists of 35,000 seedlings representing 37 varieties.

Date palms, native to the Middle East and North Africa, represent an important economic crop whose nutrient-rich fruit is often referred to as the "bread of the desert."
