DP World Launches China-Africa Shipping Route as UAE Firms Expand Global Footprint

Dubai-based DP World is launching a weekly shipping service connecting major Chinese export hubs with Tanzania and Mozambique via Southeast Asia. Meanwhile, dnata is investing AUD 32 million in an air cargo terminal at Australia's Western Sydney International Airport, and DP World opened a logistics hub in Italy. In parallel, global banks are expanding wealth management teams in Dubai, and French explorer Mantle8 has started a natural hydrogen exploration project in Ras Al Khaimah.

Dubai-based DP World's Shipping Solutions business is launching a weekly China Africa Link service in late November, according to a press release cited by EnterpriseAM. The maritime loop connects Shanghai, Ningbo, and Nansha in China with Dar es Salaam in Tanzania and Maputo in Mozambique, calling via Port Klang in Malaysia and Singapore. The service is scheduled to transport Chinese machinery, electronics, construction materials, and automotive components to Africa, while carrying agricultural products, minerals, and other commodities on the return leg.

Concurrently, Dubai logistics operators dnata and DP World are expanding their international supply chain footprints. Dnata is investing approximately AUD 32 million in a 5,000-square-meter cargo terminal at Western Sydney International Airport in Australia, where it handled the facility's first international flight on 26 October. The terminal is designed to process up to 60,000 tons annually at maturity, including temperature-sensitive cargo. In Europe, DP World has opened its first fast-moving consumer goods contract logistics hub near Bologna, Italy.

In the financial sector, international wealth managers including JPMorgan, Barclays, and Deutsche Bank are expanding their private banking presence in Dubai. HSBC has appointed a new Middle East wealth chief and plans to open a wealth center in Abu Dhabi following the launch of a Dubai facility last year, as competition intensifies for regional high-net-worth clients and family offices.

In the energy sector, French explorer Mantle8 has initiated a 24-month exploration program in Ras Al Khaimah's Hajar Mountains, marking the UAE's first dedicated initiative for naturally occurring hydrogen. The company secured exclusive rights to negotiate an exploration contract for Block 7 with the Ras Al Khaimah Energy Department. The self-funded program will deploy more than 1,000 passive seismic sensors in its initial phase, with no drilling planned at this stage.
