UAE Cuts Radioactive Transport Vehicle Licensing Time to 15 Minutes

The UAE has reduced licensing and renewal processing times for radioactive material transport vehicles from five working days to 15 minutes. The Federal Authority for Nuclear Regulation integrated its inspection data directly with federal vehicle licensing systems. UAE regulators have reduced licensing and renewal times for vehicles transporting radioactive materials from five working days to 15 minutes, Arabian Business reported. The efficiency gain follows an automated verification integration that replaces manual verification steps prior to vehicle registration or renewal approval.

The Federal Authority for Nuclear Regulation (FANR) completed the digital connection linking its radioactive vehicle inspection records directly with the Ministry of Interior's Federal General Department for Vehicle and Driver Licensing. The integration received support from Abu Dhabi Police, Abu Dhabi Mobility, the Department of Government Enablement, and the Telecommunications and Digital Government Regulatory Authority (TDRA).

Under the integrated framework, vehicle licensing systems automatically verify FANR inspection approvals, eliminating the need for transport operators to obtain separate manual confirmations. Digital approvals are accessible 24/7, reducing duplicate processing and standardising vehicle licensing requirements nationwide.

FANR confirmed that regulatory inspection standards remain mandatory, meaning automation changes the administrative workflow rather than removing safety checks. Vehicles transporting radioactive cargo cannot complete registration or renewal without regulatory inspection and approval.
